The gready little boy and a little spark of an old soul

Timor-Leste is a small country in Southeast Asia, it is known as a Catholic country because the majority of the citizens here are holding on to the faith of Catholicism. So, it is not a surprise that we celebrate most of the Catholic events as a national event as well. For example, we have Christmas, Good Friday, Day of Immaculate Conception, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and many more. This culture has been around since the arrival of Portugal in the year of 1515. You can say it has been there forever. Today I am just reminded of the very first memory I had in celebrating All souls Day. It was like every other year people bring flowers, candles and also some other things that related to the loving passing family members, form every generation that the living family could remember mostly cigarettes' and money. People bring those things to the grave of their families. And my very first memory was a happy 10 cent coin among the flowers, I was extremely happy because of that finding. I told one of my aunties that her passing Husband was my healer ( He was a person whom I stay with every time I got sick ). I told her I found a coin and she said "Give it to your father( in my language my father's brother is my Big father)" and I asked "How?" mama(since she is my Big father's wife so she is Big mom or mama).

She said "Put it down on your fathers (Big father/uncle) grave and say, Papa, take this money and use it to buy yourself a cigarette and some other things you need and then you wait for 5 seconds, take the money back and go buy something you want". And I did exactly what she said but while doing that I was curious about one thing questioning in my mind "is this 10 cent can afford many things in the world of souls? It is great" I never ask back to Big mama but I was feeling great after doing that little soul talk and sharing sign. That was my first experience of sharing with the souls what I had or you can say what I found.

Why do I write about this? Okay sharing things with a soul and find a coin! Why? Here is what I learn It was not the 10 cent that important but It was the love you have toward the person that enriches the soul of your passing ones. The flowers, candles, cigarettes, and money are just a junk of things but if you bring with you love, it will outshine the souls and warm your heart and mind that connect you to the passing souls. You will feel the soul's presence among you.

If today you have forgotten your passing family doesn't forget to make time when you can, because they are there and hungry without your love. Pay some visit to their grave and they will bless you in your everyday life.

Or maybe you can just think like this, what if you were the passing family and waiting for yourself in the living to just come and say little things about your life, having affection in it, laughing about how bad you mess up and wonderous you were. I don't know whether there is a soul or not but it is always a good thing to remember the one we love.

Happy Sunday and May the Lord blessed our passing family and bring them to the promised paradise.

This writing I dedicated to you Valenti Ximenes my Big Father, May your soul living in peace with our Lord Christ.
